Locksmiths, Who are we?

I often get asked what I do for a job, when I tell people that I am a locksmith they often reply with, Oh a key cutter. So lets quickly clarify, Yes a locksmith does cut keys but we also do a lot more than that.

Locksmith is a trade, To become a locksmith you are required to complete a 4 year apprenticeship.

Over the 4 years we have have extensive on and off the job training where we learn all the aspects of the industry which includes skills like, lock picking, Safe opening and servicing, Automotive programming and lock repairs, Access control and yes all types of key cutting just to name a few. It takes years to master the trade and as the industry is always growing with new technology and techniques being developed all the time we are always learning something new. I hope that this short blog has helped to clarify what a Locksmith really does and who we are.
